Vebego is a family-run business offering facility management services. For its new headquarters in Zurich, the company chose a smart lighting solution by Regent Lighting that goes beyond simple illumination. Connected luminaires produce comfortable light for a productive atmosphere and integrated sensors collect data on the occupancy of desks which enables more efficient cleaning.

The rental space in the "Yond" building complex was individually designed for Vebego: At the entrance, a spacious area opens up over a height of 5 ½ metres with a reception lounge, adjoined by a "marketplace area" with a long table and an auditorium staircase. Most of the workspaces are located in the two-storey area. To find the right lighting concept for this project, architect Christoph Helmdach sought advice from Regent Lighting. PURELITE and PURELITE OFFICE pendant luminaires were chosen to provide pleasant ambient lighting that blends discreetly into the ceiling areas with acoustic panels. "They provide a uniform lighting in all areas despite the different room heights and uses," explains lighting designer Maria Constantinou, head of the Regent Lighting Centre in Zurich. For the office workstations, elegant LIGHTPAD free-standing luminaires provide glare-free lighting with direct and indirect light, ideal for workspace illumination.

"We wanted the headquarters to feel like a 'family workshop' for our approximately 100 employees," says Philippe Voyame, Director Business & Digital Excellence at Vebego AG. "Because buildings are our field of activity, concrete, steel, glass and technology should be visible. At the same time, we wanted a warm and welcoming working atmosphere," explains Voyame. "That's why we preferred a colour temperature of 3000 K. Sensors in the luminaires regulate the brightness depending on the intensity of daylight. Because the LIGHTPAD free-standing luminaires offer a separate luminaire head for each desk, the brightness can also be individually adjusted by the employee - simply via a control panel in the stand. This way, everyone can generate their own atmosphere," Voyame continues. "If someone stays longer in the evening, the luminaires create a supportive lighting scenario with the help of the ALONEatWORK feature. Like this, people are no longer sitting in a small and lonely island of light around their desk in an otherwise dark room, but find themselves in a pleasantly illuminated zone," Voyame explains. The free-standing luminaires, which are connected via optoelectronic communication, create a cloud of light within a radius of several metres, thus eliminating abrupt transitions from light to dark.

The additional service offered by Regent Lighting, MyData Analysis, was of great interest at Vebego because the company is always interested in making processes more efficient and smarter - both on its own premises and for its facility management customers. The motion sensor integrated into the LIGHTPAD free-standing luminaires registers the presence times per workstation at Vebego's headquarters. This data is forwarded to an application via the MyData Analysis communication module. Via a lighting control system, the latter indicates to the cleaning staff which desks need to be cleaned.

Philippe Voyame sees a lot of potential in this: "We have already established such dynamic cleaning planning with various customers. Regent Lighting's concept offers great advantages because a fine sensor network can be used without additional efforts," says Voyame. During the coronavirus pandemic, such a smart process is particularly useful, as many office spaces remain empty due to people working from home. At the same time, hygiene standards have risen, so the spaces that have been used should be cleaned as soon as possible. According to Voyame, if used workstations can be identified, a cost reduction of between five and twenty percent can be achieved. "People at Regent Lighting think of solutions that go beyond their own products. This prioritises the interests of end users, enabling flexible concepts that, at first sight, have nothing to do with a luminaire," Voyame praises.
